Hi Georgie.........yes, that was the one. Frightening place. Had about 3
drinks at the bottom before the hill climb (by car). I wish we could get
back over there. The old guy wants to go back to our smallest province this
summer. PEI. I wanted to go to England and Spain. Some day...........

Happy New Year, old sock!!

I see there's been a few answers since my last visit, g definitely a
few more than 10 miles away I'd say, I know the name Bowness in fact we
had a holiday in Bowness-on-Windermere a few years ago very enjoyable it
was to, I think it might have been the year before you went there.

2004, was that the year you met up with Noel and borrowed his phone to
talk to me ?

Yep......sitting in a pub in Chester, trying to learn the game for the
ongoing soccer finals. LOL. Noel came in....all in black with a wild
beard....and scared the locals half to death!! Only Ron and I knew he
was a big pussycat.......bwa ha ha.

My ancestors disappeared off the face of the earth. Got them back to the
early 1700's and we descend from one brother who went to Scotland and
made big bucks as a *mowdieman*. Testing your Scottish slang here.

Bowness-on-Windermere was really pretty. Bob and Jean (owners of our
Scottish ancestral home) took us to Whitehaven, then over a horrendous
mountain to Bowness. I needed 3 valiums for that one. Can't remember
the name.......Dead Man's Pass?? That's what I would have called it.
Even the sheep looked scared. (G)

Cheers........Heather

Ahhhh.....so she would then recognize my maiden name. Too bad I was

out of the Bowness-on-Windermere restaurant manager when I said "if I
can prove I am a Bowness, can I have a free dinner??" I did, he
didn't.......must have been a Scot. (G)

Both, I seem to recall, being lovely 1 in 3s. I remember my father back in
the 50s having on one occasion to go up in reverse as this was a lower gear
than first (our Ford Consul only had a three speed gearbox and synchromesh
only when changing between second and top).

I think he was just going back to the way he used to look before that time
he had it all shaved off for charity, at least the times I met up with him
it was still quite tidy g

Think Lizzie will have us over for tea??

Why not write and ask her? You never know, she's got enough spare cash she
might just pay for you all to fly over for tea and cakes.

I've managed to get myself both a streaming cold and a touch of bronchitis
so I'm not going to be going anywhere for the next week or so where it's not
warm and dry. Look out bed, here I come! :-)

Shane........you are a ditz!! It is well southeast of the *armpit of
england*........Stockport!! Not sure if it or Manchester were the
worst. The rest of England was excellent, except for those two
weirdos that we stayed with in Dorset........we still shake our heads
over that one.
Hey Mikey.......when we win the lottery, we will come over and take
YOU out for dinner. Think Lizzie will have us over for tea?? Not
likely, lol.

Nope!! I am terrified of heights and I had my eyes shut the whole

drop and admire the scenery.....no way!!

I think haggis was #2 on my list of things I didn't like.....lol.

Hi Heather, Happy New Year to you also....

Mike's idea of going up backwards is the best method,
you can see where you're wenting from,
but you can't see where you're coming towards. ???

Just had haggis for our evening meal, with tatties and cauliflower (well we
are English) - delicious!
It was intended for last Friday but we weren't quite ready (after Thursday
night).
