Default can not read some attachments sent with emails

I have windows 98 and word. If someone sends me an
attachment with an email and it has a Microsoft explorer
blue E icon, I can not read the file. If the file has a
blue w inside the white sheet of paper, I can read it.
Does anyone know I can read this files?

Save your attachment and scan it with your AV program to ensure it's
safe. Then highlight the attachment by left clicking on it once, press
and hold the SHIFT key and right click it. Select "OPEN WITH" in the
drop down menu and then select IEXPLORE. Assuming you can now read the
attachment, repeat the above process but this time insert a checkmark
in the box :Always use this program to open this type of file".

Hope this helps

Also, I suggest reading e-mail in plain text, using a password with symbols
and numbers and using a 128 bit logon when logging into your e-mail account.
Also, have two e-mail addresses -- one for everyone and the other one for
people you absolutely trust to keep the information to themselves. It is
much safer this way.
