Default shut down problems

I cant get ME to do a normal shut down. I have just reformatted my hard
drive and reloaded 95 and ME over the top of it with all ME updates
downloaded. When I shut down the comp. it goes to a blank screen with a
curser and will not do any thing else I then have to hit reset to shut down,
then on start up scan disc runs due to improper shutdown

Tracking down shutdown and power-off problems (they differ) can be
somewhat
difficult but may I suggest that you start by having a look at MS KB
273746 -
"How to Troubleshoot Windows Me Shutdown Problems"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=273746) and then move on to Jim
Eshelman's
pages at http://aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm and
http://aumha.org/win4/a/shtdwnme.htm which cover this topic. Hopefully
you
will find advice there that will help your resolve your problem.

Well, if you have another couple hours to spare you could consider that
you don't have to install 95 to install the ME Upgrade (assuming M$
produced CD's); just go through the ME Install and when it asks you for
"proof of previous operating system" stick the 95 CD in the CD drive.
