Last year I accidentally cancelled out of a windows update
How do I correct this? I need to go back and install these updates to make
sure I haven't missed anything. It was an update in August of 2004. I don't remember which one. But I have been having problems with my ME, and maybe this is why. VickiB |

How do I correct this?
By returning to the Windows Update site and letting it check for which if any critical updates your system requires. You may also want to download and use the free Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) which will check your system and inform you of any patches you have previously downloaded that are damaged and need to be reinstalled. These can then be downloaded from the Windows Update Catalogue (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp). Unfortunately the Windows Update site won't tell you about broken packages only those which have not been installed. -- Mike Maltby VickiB wrote: How do I correct this? VickiB Besides what Mike has stated, you may configure your system for automatic updates so that you may not miss any critical update. Go to Start Settings Control panel Automatic Updates and select the way you want Windows to notify you about updates for your computer . - Baba |

Now there are two categories (1) Red X marked (HotFix that fails verification) and (2) Unmarked HotFixes (HotFixes lacking data to allow verification). Would you please enlighten which one of these categories (or both) indicates that patches previously downloaded are damaged and need to be reinstalled? Though my system check shows no red X marked HotFix but there are 22 Unmarked HotFixes. Is that a serious concern for me? TIA. - Baba |

What do you think "X Marks a HotFix that fails verification (note that failing hotfixes need to be reinstalled)" means? and "Unmarked HotFixes lack the data to allow verification" Personally I feel the words used by Belarc are pretty self-explanatory, especially so the phrase that starts with a red cross and says "needs to be reinstalled". :-). Though my system check shows no red X marked HotFix but there are 22 Unmarked HotFixes. Is that a serious concern for me? TIA. 22 certainly seems a lot. I've just checked a Win Me system here with IE6 SP1 and fully patched and not one of the IE hotfixes is checked (13) nor that for the .NET Framework nor DataAccess. The problem with many of the IE hotfixes is that many are Cumulative hotfixes and in nearly all cases have been superseded by a later Cumulative hotfix so I'm not sure why Belarc is even showing them. So, personally I wouldn't be worried in the slightest about an unmarked hotfix appearing in Belarc provided that: a) I knew I was fully patched b) Did not have one of more patches continually being reoffered via Automatic Update, and, c) I knew I had not reinstalled Win Me over itself, -- Mike Maltby |

Sorry Mike, I, somehow, missed Belarc note in the bracket which is self
explanatory for the red X marked HotFixes. Thanks for taking troubles to apply check for Win Me with IE6 SP1 (that is what I have) for unmarked HotFixes. I've 16 in IE, 3 in DataAccess, and 1 each for .NETFramework and MSXML4 but your detailed clarification thereof takes the worry off. Thanks and regards, - Baba "Mike M" wrote: Baba wrote: Now there are two categories (1) Red X marked (HotFix that fails verification) and (2) Unmarked HotFixes (HotFixes lacking data to allow verification). Baba,
Sorry about my previous post being so grumpy. Am having an awful day. It started badly and has gone progressively downhill ever since.
