Default Attn: Mr. Gary Terhune

Hi Gary, (re winzip woes)
would you mind echoeing the post you sent to me
off list please. I did not receive it/them.

I am presuming it opened up OK for you.
My partner in Thailand has disappeared into the void
neither I or his family can locate him.
(He was nowhere near the tsunami)

He may have taken his machine in for repair, or had a
power blackout which often happens there.

This problem may also be linked with a failure of my own
ISP, and being the reason I have not received your posts.

Many thanks for your help.

Use the Microsoft server instead of the Eftel server.

It wasn't a post that went missing, Alan, it was a private email. Rodney =
sent me a copy of the Zip file he's having trouble with, so I could test =
if it was OK. It was.

I've just re-sent a copy of the email. I'd post it here, but certain =
parts are private, not for public display.

Good luck locating your partner. As for the problem itself, there is =
nothing wrong with the Zip file. You mentioned, somewhere, that your =
partner is using Hotmail, and that *may* be part of the problem. There =
are several places where you can get free web space, MSN, for instance, =
where you could store files for transferring. Might be easier than using =
email now that so many ISPs, especially webmail like Hotmail, Yahoo!, =
etc., are becoming so attachment-paranoid. (The private part of my email =
includes a link to a copy of the file on my own private site, so your =
partner can download it from there and test that method.)

Thought it's now a bit too late, you should know that when you post your =
real email in public, it will almost certainly get harvested by bad guys =
and used in SPAM and virus spreaders as a "From" address. Expect much =
more SPAM and "bounces" telling you that your email didn't go through to =
someone you don't even know because it contained a virus. Might even =
consider changing your email addy if that's feasible at your ISP.

Must be a problem with my ISP Gary.
Your private emails do not reach me.

This is not the first time, some months ago
I could not post to a Stamp Collecting Newsgroup for 5 weeks
and after numerous trials on my part, (uninstalling software etc)
the ISP advised (when I called them) that they had a server down.

I'll be patient and wait for a week or so.

My ISP also does not allow email adresses to be munged
so I am stuck with status quo.

You can log onto Microsoft's news servers directly and munge to your =
heart's content:
Click on this to access this newsgroup directly:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...gen_discussion

Then go to a different folder. As you leave this one, you will be =
prompted to create an account for this server.

That's weird about your email. I'd be looking for a different ISP.

Weird indeed!
Despite the visual difference in email, we are using the same ISP as
Southcom is part of the Eftel conglomerate that the OP is posting from
and munging is not forbidden.
