Disk Write Error
When I am surfing on the internet, a few clicking sounds
come from my harddrive, and my PC freezes for a short period. Then the blue screen of death appears, saying: Disk Write Error Unable to write to disk in Drive C: Data or file may be lost. Press any key to continue. After I press a key, everything acts normal again. It is as if nothing happened...but then later the same thing occurs. OS: Windows 98SE HDD: Maxtor 40GB According to Microsoft's website: CAUSE This behavior can occur if you have a Linksys EtherFast 10/100 network adapter in your computer. The EtherFast network adapter can cause a resource conflict with Windows 98 PCI Steering. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=192844 I have been using Earthlink DSL for about 2 weeks now, but this problem did not occur until only a few days ago. Also, I have a Netgear FA312 network card. I have ran ScanDisk and Norton Disk Doctor/Antivirus, but nothing seems to be helping. |

Disk Write Error
Clicking noises usually indicate a hard drive that is dying. You may want
to consider having your hard drive tested or replaced ASAP before it totally fails. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Win9x] * PLEASE post all messages and replies in the newsgroups * for the benefit of all. Disk Write Error
Hi,
I ran ScanDisk today and it says: 32,768 bytes in bad sectors. Does this mean my hdd is really failing? What is the most efficient way to back up all my data before my hdd dies out copmletely? If I purchase a new hdd, do I need to buy a new Windows OS software all over again? Thanks. -----Original Message----- Clicking noises usually indicate a hard drive that is dying.
