Silj:

To my estimation spywareblaster is the smoothest utility of its kind around,
where updating is concerned.
Thank you.

Harry.

That's because you've never tried Ubuntu. Ubuntu updates the OS and each
and every program you have installed with one download and install that
always is very smooth. Not only that, programs such as spywareblaster,
ad-aware, spywareguard, spybot, anti virus programs, etc. don't need to
be updated because they aren't needed at all!

Order the CD from www.ubuntu.com, install it (much easier than
installing Windows, just set the BIOS to boot from the CD and follow the
easy directions) and see what you think. Oh, not only is it free, they
will send you the CD and the postage is on them.

Default Spyware Blaster Update 03.01.07

OK, let's be fair and check on Ubuntu Linux 6.10 which was released in
October, correct ? :
http://secunia.com/product/12470/?task=advisories_2006
http://secunia.com/product/12470/?task=advisories_2007

Eegads, Alias. It better update seamlessly as there is a never ending
parade of Security updates for this OS.
Be realistic ... how many *typical computer Users* will bother with
these updates ?

6.10 isn't recommended yet. I use 6.06. A balloon pops up when there are
updates. Two clicks later and it's downloading and installing. One click
later and you're done. Gosh, so complicated. Think you could handle it?

The last time I installed Ubuntu, there were 204 updates. They
downloaded and installed flawlessly. I installed all the programs I
wanted and another update appeared to update these programs. Again,
flawlessly.

Ubuntu recognized all the hardware flawlessly.

Can you say the same about Windows and hardware or Windows and updates
like IE7?

Can you say the same about Windows and hardware or Windows and updates like IE7?

In 11 years of running various versions of Windows there has been a
total of 2 updates that would not install. Both were for Office Viewer
apps and the issue stemmed from the fact that I'd deleted the
installation file. Of course had I known before hand that the install
file must be kept ...
I will not install IE7 until forced to.
NO updates have ever caused an issue with any version of Windows except
for the MDAC update for ME that caused Help&Support not to function.

I've played with several 'nix distros and apparently was not as
fortunate as you.
SUSE10 was irreparably damaged by kernel updates on two occassions and
that was the end of that for me.

Trust me, I'm not an 'OS agnostic'. Whatever works for you, go right
ahead and use it.

Not only that, programs such as spywareblaster, ad-aware, spywareguard, spybot,
anti virus programs, etc. don't need to be updated because they aren't needed at all!

To imply that 'nix is more secure than any OS is not a realistic
viewpoint, IMHO. It may UPDATE seamlessly for you, but it sure didn't
for me.

Much obliged, Alias, never heard of this one and wouldn't have, if it
weren't for you.. I'll look into it with Mow Green's comment in mind.
The way you portray it, how can I resist?

Harry.

But you forgot to mention that it is a Linux-based OS, Alias and which makes
all the difference, IMHO. H.
