CD rom drive missing
Hello. I used to have a Zip100 drive(D) that I uninstalled. I have a CD Rom
(E) and a RW CD(F). When double clicking on my computer I still see the zip100(D) and CDR(E) is missing. The weired thing is that when right clicking on the zip100(D) and choosing Eject it opens up the CDR(E) that the icon is missing. What is going on? Any thoughts? Thanks for your suggestions. |

Boot to Safe Mode, open the Device Manager and delete the entry for the
Zip drive and all optical drives. Boot back into Normal Mode and let the system redetect your optical devices. Now open the Device Manager and in turn select the Properties for each of your optical drives and allocate to each the preferred drive letter. Reboot. Explorer should now show each drive with the letters you have chosen. -- Mike Maltby Chris wrote: Hello. I used to have a Zip100 drive(D) that I uninstalled. I have a CD Rom (E) and a RW CD(F). Mike thanks for the reply! I followed your instructions and when came back to
the normal mode Zip100 was still there but F is replaced by E(CD) and CDRW(F) is missing. How do I allocate letters in the device manager? In their properties there is no mention of assigning letters. "Mike M" wrote: Boot to Safe Mode, open the Device Manager and delete the entry for the Zip drive and all optical drives. Mike thanks! You are a life saver as usual! Ignore my last message, I was an
air head then somehow. It is fixed now and the Zip100 is gone. Somehow the setting would not show the last time I was questioning where to put the letters. Thanks again. By the way, how come this page freezes on me whenever I am on it. It freezes every so often and comes out of it in 5-10 seconds. "Chris" wrote: Hello. Chris,
I'm pleased to read you've now managed to fix your problems with your optical drives. By the way, how come this page freezes on me whenever I am on it. It freezes every so often and comes out of it in 5-10 seconds. Try using a news reader such as Outlook Express to access these newsgroups rather than using the more than a little deficient web interface you are using. For example clicking on the following URL news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...owsme.hardware will open your default news reader (by default Outlook Express), add the Microsoft MSNews news server account (msnews.microsoft.com) and open this newsgroup (microsoft.public.windowsme.hardware). Cheers. -- Mike Maltby Chris wrote: Mike thanks! You are a life saver as usual! Ignore my last message, I was an air head then somehow. It is fixed now and the Zip100 is gone.
