Default Changes to a file with plain text editor

If I wanted to change a setting in a file, say AUTOEXEC.BAT using a plain
text editor to make the change,

How would I:

(a) open a command prompt and
(b) open the file for editing?

The simple way is using notepad, which is a plain editor.

But if you want to do it the hard way:
Open command prompt:
Start-Run-Command

Open the file:
edit C:\Autoexec.bat

You don't need to open a command prompt to edit the file.
In Windows Explorer, simply right-click on the file name, and select "edit"

You could open the text editor first and browse to open Autoexec.bat,
though you already have a plain text method of opening Autoexec.bat
Use Sysedit.
Start-Run-SYSEDIT

Start / Run / SysEdit / OK.

Select AUTOEXEC.BAT
