I hate win me

I have win me,and its driving ME crazy,granted i didnt buy the computer new
and well,ya i got screwed,so i'm trying to make the best of a bad deal.The
book says,make a start-up disk,when i try i get files missing,moved and or
corrupted,so i'm unable to fix any of the other illness's my retarded child
has,lol,so what i want to kno is;can i dump ME for XP and do i have to remove
ME b-4 i do it???????????.

What "trouble" are you having, specifically. You can work through the
issues, one by one, and make ME sing like a bird.

It works great for me, after using the helpful advice from the *smart* folks
in this newsgroup.
They are just waiting 'til you post a specific problem, and they'll have the
answers for you, quick as a flash.

In the first instance, If you haven't got a 'good' WinMe Startup (floppy)
disk, you can download a WinMe Bootdisk making utility (select the 'Windows
Me OEM' option) from
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

**But be sure to read the instructions on how to actually create the
bootdisk** -which are essentially :-

Don't just copy the download to a floppy disk, download the file onto your
computer (any computer, with an A:drive) and then you MUST run the file for
it to actually create the Startup (floppy) disk. Just follow the screen
instructions.

However, as BarryG has said elsewhere on this thread, just post one specific
issue at a time (preferably under a new thread for each problem) and
probably someone here will be able to help you.

There could be a number of (easily resolvable) reasons none least, due to
the 'previous owner'

I downloaded this for a friend but never knew it 'had to be run'?
Can I 'run' it on my 98 machine without causing any problems
to my machine?
Lastly, why is it so complicated to get a simple boot-disk?
Is this a trait of M.E that is silly when compared to others?

There's nothing to add to Mart's clear instructions of what needs to be
done..

It isn't? Why do you think it is? Add.Remove Programs | Startup Disk
just as in Win 98.

The problem is when either the user or the manufacturer has screwed the
system and the above does not work that complications set in such as when
someone has decided to delete the Win Me setup files from where they were
placed during the initial installation (usually either
c:\windows\options\install or c:\windows\options\cabs depending on whether
Microsoft or OEM installation media was used).
