Default URGENT HELP NEEDED !!!!!!!!!!!! LOW ON SPACE !!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what happened but I'm severely low on disk
space. I was in the living room and had about 400 mb or so
of space left. I shut the laptop off and went into my
bedroom where I started the computer back up. Now, it
tells me that I only have around 100 mb. What happened ? I
tried to run Norton's but it told me that there were no
viruses. I ran HiJack This, and that, too, told me that
nothing was wrong. Still ****ed, I ran AdAware and,
suprise, suprise, there was nothing wrong. Please help ?

You have a virus.

It's called "UR2Stupid2ownORuseAcomputer" and needs
immediate rectification.

Alternatively you could look for yourself at Explorer and
see where the clutter is.

You cannot seriously think anyone reading your post would
be able to assist you on the basis of what you wrote?!?!

Hmmm?

Possibly, but I'd like to think we wouldn't be so sarcastic.

I have a Pentium 3 ThinkPad i series. 500 mhz. Running
Windows98SE. I don't know what happened. The drive is
showing about three hundred less mb of space then there
should be. Please help. I ran Norton's, like I said, and
there was no virus. Please help.

Well, since I'm so stupid, maybe you can tell me what you
mean by Explorer. Do you mean Windows Explorer in the
start menu ? If so, how would I look for clutter ?

Your problem is that with today's computers, 400mb of hard drive space is
nothing at all. If you open one or two large files, the swapfile (virtual
memory space on your hard drive) could eat that up in seconds. You either
need a larger hard drive or you need to be more aggressive with cleaning up
unneeded programs and data files.

Spottedfeather,

As that idiot demonstrated, there are things infinitely
worse than being uninformed or uneducated on a given
subject.

Please don't acknowledge people who post such rude,
immature, unconstructive replies.

The person who mentioned searching for and removing large
or unneccessary files was most likely on the right track.

There's many possible explanations for why you saw such a
drastic change in your available disk space but would
start with the basics and work up from there.

Most versions of Windows include tools to clean up
temporary or unneeded files. They can usually be found
by 'Right-Clicking' on the icon of the harddrive you're
concerned with in 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer' then
selecting 'Properties' and look for something called 'Disk
Cleanup'. These tools can also be found under various
folders in the 'Programs' directory depending on what OS
you're running.

If the utility doesn't confirm that it found several
hundred megs of space to reclaim, you may want to manually
browse through your harrdrive looking for obvious files
you can safely delete. These are often located in fairly
standard folders with names like 'TEMP' or in the C:\
(root)directory or C:\Windows\Temp ...

If you back up the data you've created that's important to
you, you should be able to proceed with some degree of
confidence that anything you might accidently break can be
fixed or reinstalled !

Jay
