Windows 98se & IE6 question please

put finger to keyboard and composed: Windows 98se & IE6 question In MS Internet Explorer 6 under Windows 98se under "File, Edit with" it shows Microsoft Word. Can That be changed to show Front Page Express and if so how. Be specific please. Thank you. Mine shows "Windows Notepad" if I'm viewing a HTM file. When I go to Tools - Internet Options - Programs, under HTML editor I'm given a choice of Windows Notepad or OpenOffice.org 1.1.0. In the event that Front Page Express does not appear in your drop down list, you can add it via Explorer (not IE). Select View - Folder Options - File Types, locate HTML Document, and click Edit. Select New. In the Action box type &Edit and in the "Application used to perform action" box type the path and filename of the Front Page Express executable (fpxpress.exe). You can use the Browse button to locate it on your hard drive. Type OK to finish. I'm not sure, but you may have to enclose the Front Page Express executable in quotes, and you may need to add an argument, eg ... "C:\FPX_folder_name\fpxpress.exe" "%1" Hopefully someone will be able to clear this up. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

wrote: Windows 98se & IE6 question In MS Internet Explorer 6 under Windows 98se under "File, Edit with" it shows Microsoft Word. Can That be changed to show Front Page Express and if so how. *Be specific please. Thank you. It used to be yes with IE5, but with IE6 came a relentless file associationing with Front Page and NOT Front Page Express. Read - it can NOT be changed from "Front Page Editor" text... REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\Applications\F pxpress.exe\shell] "FriendlyCache"="Front Page Express" "FriendlyCacheCTime"=hex:01,00,00,00,b4,af,bd, 70 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\Applications\F pxpress.exe\shell \edit] @="&Edit" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\Applications\F pxpress.exe\shell \edit\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\MICROS~1\\bin\\Fpxpress.exe %1" The above reg file entries are related to a working Front Page Express installation. In order for FPX to show in the Internet Options| Programs tab drop down selector for an HTML editor the above "FriendlyCache"="Front Page Express" entry needs to exist as the Front Page Express part is the text in the drop down text box. The trouble is that with IE6, it will overwrite that text with "Front Page Editor" each time the drop down box is used so you will have to learn to live with calling it Front Page Editor in the drop down text while the path points to Front Page Express instead. The path must be valid also, on one of my machines Micros~4 was the correct name for that folder - it would be best to just overinstall FPX to let it correct the proper entry rather than use the reg files supplied above. Of course you need to install Front Page Express first before it can be used. It was dropped from IE 5 way back before IE 5.01 IIRC. You can still get it as a stand alone installer that will work with IE 6 but only if you are willing to call it Front Page Editor from: http://www.paulsxp.com/downloads.html This FPX installer has the last version of FPX files MS issued. |
