Why???
Why should I ?
My WinME runs fine with zero problems, OK it's not used so much nowadays since my daughter left home but before then she went through school and college using it every day for various things, not just simple email and browsing. Don't need to upgrade to XP have a machine running it that my husband uses, I use Vista. Don't have many problems in this house with computers the operators behind the keyboards aren't stupid. -- Joan Archer http://www.freewebs.com/crossstitcher http://lachsoft.com/photogallery "Robb Pierce" wrote in message ... Why do people still use Windows ME? Just upgrade to XP already. |

And anybody who has delayed until now, and decides that the hardware can handle it, may not be able to find an upgrade so easily. -- Norman ~Shine, bright morning light, ~now in the air the spring is coming. ~Sweet, blowing wind, ~singing down the hills and valleys. |

I understand all that, and XP home works fine. I used ME for 3 months, and had to reinstall windows about 6 times. This same machine had 98se for some time, ran perfect, I then installed XP pro, and again, ran perfect. I run a computer repair shop, and we had zero successful Win ME computers work, we reverted back to 98se until it was gone, then made the jump to XP. None of our clients had ME for over 6 months because it was so horrible, even for single use. I used Windows Me for six *years* (not months). The only real trouble I ever had was brought by McAfee and Norton. I dropped them, not Windows Me, and everything was fine. In my experience, both Windows 98 SE and Windows Me can not be kept running 24/7; both need to be restarted about once every other day. OTOH, Windows 98 would fall over when System Resources dropped under 30%. Might as well pull the plug then, and restart cold. Windows Me would run until System Resources were under 20%; and, about half the time, if Resources were just 9%, you could shut down applications until you reached a state where Windows Me could be restarted normally. -- Norman ~Shine, bright morning light, ~now in the air the spring is coming. ~Sweet, blowing wind, ~singing down the hills and valleys. |

Why???
Very strange indeed, so strange as a matter of fact, that I lost my internet
connection, just sending an email and now my modem is supposedly not working properly. I am in the process of finding out what's wrong and, hopefully, will be successful. What a blessing to have this machine and WinME. Harry. "Corday" wrote in message news Harry, Dialup and Vista make a strange combination. By the time your updates finishing updating, it's time for new updates. Don't worry though. When Microsoft discontinues support, there won't be any more waiting. -- I mastered Wordstar graphics! All in all there is an advantage in ME, because one no longer needs to spend time downloading all sorts of updates. Vista has improved features and an advanced look but with dial-up it is quite a bit slower than ME, despite dual core processing. And not everyone can afford to 'upgrade' time and time again either. In short: consider yourself fortunate. Harry. "Robb Pierce" wrote in message ... Why do people still use Windows ME? Just upgrade to XP already. |

Are you describing the speed of your Internet connection or the speed of
the OS? If the former, it doesn't matter what the hardware specs are for your system. A dial-up connection is going to be limiting no matter what system configuration you have. webster72n wrote: Am just getting aquainted with Vista, while still operating ME and to my surprise discovered that ME is faster than Vista. A lot of hyperbole in that attachment (is that where the term "hype" for such FUD is derived?) -- Norman ~Shine, bright morning light, ~now in the air the spring is coming. ~Sweet, blowing wind, ~singing down the hills and valleys. |

"Robb Pierce" wrote in message ... Why do people still use Windows ME? Just upgrade to XP already. Because it's better than Vista: smaller, faster, hard drive friendly, "inexpensive," and user-friendly. And more. XP is fine too, and so is Vista, but Vista can get tripped up too easily. EW |

Why???
Surprise, surprise, I'm back in business and all with just a little 'System
Restore', suggested by Dell Help/Support. Vista isn't so bad after all, even with dial-up, simply takes some 'getting used to'. My next step will be to explore 'Ubuntu', which runs fine on this machine. Harry. "Corday" wrote in message news Harry, Dialup and Vista make a strange combination.
