It's Freezing
OK, so I installedd Windows ME on a Windows 95 that was a 98 that was a 95.
Long story... Anyway, I installed it and everything worked fine until after a reboot everything started to freeze. I could always move my mouse but nothing else. If I clicked Control Panel it would freeze, even if I did a simple thing such as trying to delete an icon. I left the computer on for 8+ hours to see if it would let up but no cigar. This happened right after a Windows Update so I don't know if it could have anything to do with that. Please help because our family needs to use the computer. Thanks. |

If urgent and/or all else fails ... **AND** ... ASS-U-ME-ing that you
allowed to the 'old system' (95/98?) to be retained and saved (to permit it to be restored in the event of a catastrophe!!) when you installed WinMe, then you *should* be able to revert back to your previous system. For the description of how this can be done, see the section "REMOVING WINDOWS ME FROM YOUR COMPUTER" of the 'setup.txt' file in the /win9x folder of the WinMe CD. NB. You can also get a copy of the instructions :- "Removing Windows Me" "Windows Millennium Edition Setup.txt File Contents" http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;271240 Hope that helps and if successful, you can always try the WinMe upgrade again later. Oh! and good luck Mart "Adrian" wrote in message ... OK, so I installedd Windows ME on a Windows 95 that was a 98 that was a 95. Long story... Well, I said no to that since it takes up a good chunk of space (The computer
is roughly 10 years old) and since there were no files on it any way (I clreaded the partitions when I put on 98, which is when I switched to ME) so that won't work. Thanks for the luck by the way. In your original post, you intimated that you had only (very) recently
upgraded to WinMe from Win95/98 and so hence my suggestion. However, as you now imply that WinMe has been installed (and running) for some time, and the problem has only occurred (very) recently, then you should try running System Restore and roll-back to the last time/date BEFORE you did the update. Mart "Adrian" wrote in message ... It's Freezing
Nope. It's been on only a day or 2. Let me explain in detail.
Win 95 - 10/11 years. Messed up. Win 98 - 2 max 3 months. Display messed everything up. Win 95 - 1 day - I put in the HP Recovery Disk that came with my PC at first. Turned it into Win 95. Win ME - 1/2 Days. Hopefully that helps =) "Mart" wrote: In your original post, you intimated that you had only (very) recently upgraded to WinMe from Win95/98 and so hence my suggestion. OK (I think g), so let's try again.
Under the circumstances, try the second suggestion first - i.e. :- .. try running System Restore and roll-back to the last time/date BEFORE you did the (Windows) update. N.B. you wrote in your 1st post :- .... This happened right after a Windows Update (System Restore can be found in the Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools menu) Try that first and worry (or not) about the first suggestion later. In Safe Mode too?
Boot up in Safe Mode and when the 'Help Console' (eventually) appears, you will see SR halfway down the page. (To boot into Safe Mode, press and hold the Shift key immediately on powering-up your computer, or keep tapping the Ctrl or F8 keys and select Safe Mode from the menu) Mart "Adrian" wrote in message ...
