Default "All Folders" pane missing or Windows Explorer is blank

Hi

Does anyone know the correct registry key which causes "All Folders" pane
missing or Windows Explorer is blank in ME.

I have found this link for Windows 95/98 but Ive looked in the registry and
it does seem to apply to ME.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...15&Product=w98

Thanks

Nigel

NB
Some of may remember my thread concerning "New 120 GIG Hard Drive: Garbled
Folder appeared" started on 22 May 2004 (the thread has disappeared from my
ISP now).
Latest info: I have bought and flashed a new BIOS from esupport but now I
have problems with my Floppy and Hard Drives using an MS-DOS compatibility
mode file system. In fact I cannot see my CD ROM or DVD at all. At
present.E-support are trying to resolve the problem. You may be aware that
once ME goes into this mode for the IDEs it can be difficult to resolve
without a re-install of ME. If anyone has any ideas on this, I would be
pleased to receive them. I have followed all the advice

http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winme

and

http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winme

Thanks to everyone (especially masterprometheus) that replied to me on the
original strand. Once I sort it all out then I will post the solution for
others that might have the same problem..

Explorer's Folder View:
This particular problem is usually the result of a damaged IE (usually IE6)
install, often as a result of doing so with Norton or McAfee running at the
time. Yes I do realise you are talking about Windows Explorer rather than
Internet Explorer but the two are linked. May I suggest that you try
repairing IE. Do this using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and highlight
Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Add/Remove and then on the next screen
select "Repair Internet Explorer" and then OK.

If you don't have an entry for Microsoft Internet Explorer but rather it reads
something like Internet Explorer Q?????? don't worry. This is because you
have installed a cumulative update for Internet Explorer. You will need to
uninstall the update, then go back into Add/Remove Programs, look again for
Microsoft Internet Explorer, repair it and then reinstall the latest
cumulative update.

If this doesn't work or you have no entry for Internet Explorer in Add/Remove
Programs please post back and someone will hopefully post further details on
how to repair Explorer.

After I replied to u I just thought I remembered seeing somewhere that the
repair tool had been removed in ME so i looked around:

Please see:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winme

So I guess I will have to wait until someone knows if its a registry
problem.

Thanks again

Nigel,

Why not try what I have suggested? I made my post with good reason - it works
in around 99.9% of cases - why do you think I posted the details, because I
had nothing better to do? KB236759 is 100% irrelevant to the problem.

So ONCE AGAIN, and yes I am shouting, you DO NOT NEED A REGISTRY FIX but
rather need to repair IE. At which point loop back to my original post.

Rather than read the inappropriate KB 236759 you might instead want to try
reading KB194177 - "Description of the Internet Explorer Repair Tool"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=194177) you will note that this covers all
version sof IE running on Win Me and also a section towards the very bottom of
the article that states:
"If the Internet Explorer Repair Tool Verification does not work, or if
Internet Explorer 5 is not listed in the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control
Panel, you may be able to start the Internet Explorer Repair tool from a
command prompt:
etc."

If your going to reply in that tone...please dont bother replying to me in
the future. I like to think that we are all learning......and thats why I
posted that reply to u because I half remembered seeing something. I may be
wrong but i certainly dont appreciate your shouting or ur comments.

And I don't appreciate you saying that you are going to ignore my suggestions
and wait for further help. I posted an answer that has worked for the
majority of others experiencing similar problems (you only have to search
these newsgroups) but instead you chose to ignore those suggestions and posted
that you would instead wait for the help of others. Let's hope that someone
posts something that meets your newly stated requirements. It won't be me
either now or in the future.

Mike

I am an ordinary Windows ME user. I sometimes ask for help, often to help
other people that live over here in Spain and I do it voluntarily. Often
they just ask me to help them set their email up or may be how to create a
shortcut or something very simple. Sometimes, I offer help providing I know
for sure that I have the right answer.

I don't, for one minute, doubt that u are very knowledgeable about Windows
ME and I would never "ignore" any suggestions. I take it that u are just an
individual too, who offers help for free to people.

If you remember, I did quote a Microsoft article that Id half remembered
seeing. It seemed pretty conclusive that the Repair Explorer didn't apply to
ME. Of course, there are many Microsoft articles around that don't always
appear when u search. I do try the search and i always search back through
this news/g before I post.

If the article that i quoted was incorrect then Microsoft should amend it or
put a link in it to the one you gave. This is, of course, not ur fault.

I didn't try ur idea this afternoon because I always feel I need to be sure
before I do anything on anyone's computer. We also got tied up for about 3
hours in other Windows issues. If i mess up mine then that my problem. That
is not saying in any way that ur suggestion will not work.
You must be able to see where I was coming from. I had found a registry
article on the same subject Windows 95/98.

Really all u needed to do was to point out, nicely, that u were sure that ur
suggestion might well work.

Can i ask you what MS-MVP means after ur name please?

I dont go in for "name calling" and I believe that we have to respect one
another at whatever levels we are at in understanding ME issues. Perhaps if
u cant do that then u shouldn't be replying to people at all. I find most
people need very basic help and shouting in a n/g just irritates people and
puts them off asking basic questions. You have to be prepared for people to
get things wrong.

All I am saying is that a little politeness and curtacy would be a better
tack than the one u employed to me. If I seemed to offend u in "appearing"
to dismiss ur suggestion then that was not in any way intentional. I was
just going on the limited "facts" at my disposal and i guess just checking
ur idea.

I am not going to end my post in the discourteous way that u did.

Regards

Nigel
