Default Wapisvit not responding

I've been trying to download Ad-Aware, BHOCaptor and
CWShredder, but system freezes up. When I Ctrl+Alt+Del
the following is not responding "Wapisvit" I've disabled
McAfee Anti-Virus Program. Any ideas?

I don't understand why you have disabled your AV application. Doing this
could potentially cause you major problems.

Wapisvit.exe is malware and one of the many names used by PurityScan. Purity
Scan is a commercial parasite, a total scan not to say also a sham and adware.
For more details see
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...urityscan.html.
You can try using PurityScan's uninstaller
(http://www.purityscan.com/uninstall.html) but I don't know that I'd trust
such an disreputable company. Further details and comments can be found at
the entry for winservn at
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...tasklist_w.htm

Use MSConfig (Start, Run, enter MSConfig in the box and click OK), open the
Startup tab and uncheck any entry labelled PurityScan or that in the right
hand column refers to the file wapisvit.exe. Reboot and then look for and
delete wapisvit.exe.

If you haven't already done so I would strongly recommend that you check out
your system using your preferred anti virus application with a current updated
set of viral signatures and also download yourself a copy of the free Ad-Aware
6.0 from Lavasoft (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and also the
free SpyBot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) and scan your system for and
remove all unwanted parasites, adware and spyware that might be hiding on your
PC.
