Default Cannot Load programs on new slave drive

I just added a new harddrive to my existing computer as
the slave drive, but can not get the system to load
programs on the drive though the system recognizes the
drive itself. Do I need to put any part of Windows on the
drive 'D' in order to load and run programs from the new
drive? At this time I have a 'C' and 'D' drive and all
programs are running off of 'C', but I want to install
Nero on the 'D' drive and so that I can burn CD's because
there is not enough room on 'C' to burn a CD. Can someone
please help me with this?

I think you'll have to partition and format the drive.
Use fdisk from a command prompt to partition it (be careful, make sure you
are partitioning the 2nd drive).

When you've partitioned and rebooted run 'format d:' from command prompt.

If you already have a D drive (which is not the CD rom), maybe you only
need to format.

You don't need to have Windows installed on the D: drive,
but it must be formatted.

Right-click on the D: drive in My Computer and choose
Format.

If that isn't the problem, when you try to install
programs on the D: drive Windows has to make use of free
space on the C: drive, so try freeing up space on it by
using Add/Remove programs to remove some programs that you
reinstall later.

Tell us what happens when you try to install a program on the D: drive. Give us a
step-by-step. Are there any error messages?

Have you formatted the D: drive after installing it?

On top of the others if you have fdisk'd/formatted, when installing =
programs many will have a custom option which you need to select, then =
you should be able to point the install to the D: drive. I have very =
very few stubborn programs installed on C:, all of the others are =
installed on D:.=20

If the slave is much bigger and faster than the original C: it might be
advantagous as well to move the windows swap file there, to give Nero and
others access to the larger free space.
Right click my computer or start settings control panel
system properties
performance
virtual memory
Let me specify my own virtual memory
Hardisk D
0 minimum
dont set a maximum or set it to the full size of the drive
OK all the way out including reboot if necessary I cant remember if you have
to Its been a while

then system properties
performance
virtual memory
let Windows manage my virtual memory
Ok all the way out again
and you will have the windows swap file on the new drive managed by windows so
it can shrink and grow as needed
