Upgrade to IE 6 - Windows won't start
After Upgrading to IE6 online. Now get 'memory access
violation error" when starting windows.

Blank Desktop or Illegal Operations Error Message After You Install Internet Explorer http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=249191 If you get winfile running, I'd try to reinstall ie 6 with it as it sounds as if it didn't complete the first time around.
