Default Must I re-format?

I have several different problems going on with W98SE. I
have decided that it's probably easier to re-install
Windows than to chase all the problems.
Is it possible to re-install Windows and my other software
without re-formatting (I don't want to have to back-up all
my data files)? Windows is currently operating out of a
subdirectory Windows.000 which leads me to believe it's
been re-installed once before.

Thank you. I assume I can do it again, and it will write
over the Windows.000 directory? Can I delete the Windows
directory?

You should be given an option of where to install it. I would delete the
contents of the Windows folder (providing there is nothing in it you need)
before installing and then install in the Windows folder. Then when you are
up and running and have transferred everything you need from the .000
folder, delete it.

Will this fix all my Windows based problems? Will the
registry start clean?
