Default beep every so often

I don't know where you are getting your info regarding the maximum memory your
system will take. I looked up your system at both Crucial.com and at MemoryX.net,
and they both show the same info:
System Information for the IBM PC 300PL Type 6862 All Models -
System Type: Desktop Computer
Maximum memory: 768MB
Standard memory: 32MB removable
Slots/banks: 3 (3 banks of 1)

3-128MB sticks equals 384MB, not 768, so it appears your information may be
incorrect. If you are getting memory errors with the third stick installed, I would
suspect it is not compatible with the others, or all the sticks may be of different
types. Please confirm exactly what type of RAM each stick is. Also note that some
RAM has been mis-labeled in the past.

Where did each stick come from, what type and brand is each? It sounds like you
have a RAM mis-match problem, to me.

It calls for 3 128mb sticks of ram for max. memory. I can only pass
the Norton Works memory test with 2 sticks in it. If I put in all 3
sticks it says I have a memory error at such and such an address. So I
just keep 2 128 sticks in it until I figure what is going on. I still
get a periodic beep from the computer speaker at no particular time.
Also I continue to get a high severity registry error when I run the
one button scan. Is there a more indepth registry scan program that
will help me find out what the problem is?

The IBM PC 300PL came in a number of different models.....Type 6562, 6565, 6584,
6592, and so on up to 6892. Which model do you have? You can find out how much
memory it can support once you have identified the correct model.

I have no idea what the beep is that you are hearing, if it is in fact a beep.

Does
it also happen in Safe Mode? What about after doing a clean boot?

I purchased all ram from micro center in fairfax, va. It is centon
electronics inc. I interchanged all sticks and all sticks passed the
norton mem test as long as they were in slot 0 and 1. I had 768 in the
computer but changed to 384 based on the sticker under the cover. I
also went to the website and looked up my machine and saw that it
supports 768 mb of ram. I guess my question at this point is now that
I have 2 sticks of 128 taht pass the norton mem test should I leave
that in or go back to 768 that don't pass the mem test? I don't want
to screw up my machine.

I presume the Norton memory test is run under Windows. No software memory test is
totally accurate....the best way to test RAM is with a hardware RAM testing machine,
which some computer shops have. Software tests should be done from a floppy boot to
DOS, using one of these apps:

DocMemory
http://www.simmtester.com/page/produ...c/download.asp

MemTest86:
http://www.memtest86.com/

I really can't say why Norton sees the RAM as bad when placed in the third slot...it
may be a Norton problem, which is why I suggest using these other DOS-mode testers.
