From an e-mail received from Annalee it appears the poster has problems in
following the instructions. Apparently the ATTRIB command is unavailable
when booting using option 2 or 3 and my way simply fails. Now you and I
know that all three methods work. However I seem to recall seeing the
dreaded words GoBack earlier in this thread which means that Annalee won't
ever be able to boot to a DOS prompt unless they follow the on screen
instructions for how to do so as GoBack will prevent them doing so.

Hello Everyone,

First my apologies to Noel and Mike, for not understanding and being so
stubborn.

I thought I had the option of either making sure restore was shut down or
uninstalling go back , which i did not want to do. Then this morning
reading Mike's answer to my email, made me think "if the attrib command does
not work with go back installed , maybe that is why the recovery program
won't work. Well stubborn as i am, I first took the computer apart looking
for loose cables, knowing i always check them last as I finish work , but
did so anyway. Nothing loose. Then I tried recovery one more time, same
message, so I uninstalled goback. Then tried recovery disks again and YES
it is working.

After I get all the updates in I will test system restore to see if it
works. I will try the attrib command just to see how it works. I am sorry
for not understanding, when it told me three causes for the drive not
reading , the third being a virus I just assumed that was causing the
problem.
many thanks for help,
Debra

Hi Debra,

Wow. So I was right in thinking that GoBack was the cause of your not
being able to get to DOS and therefore ATTRIB not working. Unfortunately
I haven't read all of the thread as Noel was trying to help, I only posted
when I realised that if you were choosing option 4 from the boot floppy
you would not be able to use the ATTRIB command other than by including
the path to the file on your C:\ drive.

As I'm not sure what the problem is that was the reason for this thread
I'll leave it to Noel to try and bring your problem to a conclusion.

Regards,

LOL. I'm not quite sure how using the ATTRIB command prior to renaming
the _RESTORE folder relates to the subject of the thread (master ide
controller) which means I have apparently missed a lot (and no longer have
the messages to fall back on).. I really must try to familiarise myself
with the entire thread in future before jumping in with two feet. All I
remember is adding the comment about ATTTRIB not being available when
choosing option 4, minimal boot, and somewhere in the back of mind recall
seeing GoBack mentioned. It really does seem as if the grey cells need
recharging (is that possible?). :-)
