startup problem
After I reformated my C drive, I reinstalled Win98. After
Win98 startup picture pops up, immediately my computer goes to the dos display and says: A device file that is specified in the System.ini file is damaged. It may also be needed to run Windows. You may need to run the Windows setup program again. If the file is included in another software package, you may need to reinstall the software that uses the file. C:\windows\system\aspienum.vxd Press any key to continue... And then I press a key, it will take a very long time for my computer to start. I tried the fix instructions on this website, but I could not find the above file in my win98 cd-rom. What should I do? |

startup problem
Error with the Aspienum.vxd File During Windows Me Setup
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=263809 This article is for WinME; however, the error message in it appears to be the same as your message. It says this can occur if the Aspienum.vxd device driver file is present on your computer before the installation. This doesn't jibe with your claim of formatting the drive; however, it seems more than coincidental that the error message is the same. I therefore recommend that you look at the fix in the article and give it a shot. Let us know how things go please. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Ling" wrote in message ...
