Default Product Key?

Please refresh my memory! How do I find the "Product Key" in the Registry? A
friend of mine needs to find hers.

TIA
Angel

If she can start Windows, tell her to start regedit on the computer in question and look in the
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion"
key. If not, tell her to carefully type the following two lines at the DOS command line.

regedit /e a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
find /i "productkey" a

The product key should be displayed on the first panel of
/ start / settings / control panel / system.

Don,

That is the "Product ID", NOT the "Product Key". Ben is right except you
have to click on the words "CURRENTVERSION" to find it in the right hand
panel.

In case the key you find doesn't work, come back here and let me know.
I can post a few dozen product keys for various versions of Windows 98.
