Cannot Install Framework Service Pack 2 (and other questions)

Hi all;

No matter how many times I try, Windows ME refuses to
install MS .NET Framework Service Pack 2. It downloads the
full 6.4Mb, restarts my computer, but it isn't applied.
Doing a search for Updates again shows that it's been
downloaded, but still shows it as an available update. How
do I apply this update?

Secondly, my icon associations for certain files (all
media, Mp3, Mpeg, AVI etc) show as the normal unassociated
file icon. Even though they are associated correctly with
a program (Media Player 9 etc), they don't show under
Explorer etc as that icon, but the aforementioned file
icon instead. I've tried to use TWEAK UI to repair File
Associations and Icons but to no avail. Any ideas what
this problem is?

And lastly: .swf files. I can't open 'em! At least, not
from the C:\ drive. If they are hosted online I can see
them, but I can't open them manually. I've installed the
latest Macromedia Flash/Shockwave files, and friends can
open the .swf files on their machine... but with me it
just times out on the IE6 loading bar. I suspect it's an
IE setting I've got flagged... but if so, I can't find it.

Any help that can be offered would be appreciated. Thank

Do you have something that requires .NET ? Generally stuff for Win9x
doesn't.

You might try deleting a (possibly corrupted) file called SHELLICONCACHE
in C:\Windows (it's a hidden file), though that's probably what TweakUI
does.

Are you sure you don't have .NET Framework 1.1 ? This version doesn't
have any service pack. Maybe you've installed ver 1.1 and now trying to
install ver 1.0 sp2 and of course it refuses to install over a better
version.

there or is it the same unassociated file icon for all of you media file

trying to do, because it spots it every time I check for
update. How can I check if I have 1.1 installed?

display as the clipboard file type. If you open
the "Advanced Box Change Icon" it is pointing to the
correct executable and to the correct Icon. Double
clicking to reselect doesn't change it though, it remains
the clipboard one.

They will run when embedded into a web page. Downloading
them, and double clicking on them (or hitting enter) when
highlighted doesn't open them. Nor does that work if you
associate with Internet Explorer. Right clicking and
selecting open fails too. As does Right Click Open With
IE6. It's not the file as I say, it opens on friends
machines elsewhere (after being sent by ICQ to them). And
they used to work on mine too... dunno what's wrong now.
