Un-install/Clean re-install?
I while back I overlapped a re-install to correct a lag @ bootup. Solved that
but now I have a DNS error in IE6 - no internet. I can receive/send email & ping successfully. I was told the best thing to do would be un/re-install to correct IE. (Tried to un/re-install that by itself - no can do. Missing IE maintance - run.dll?) What's the best (& easiest way) to do this? Running WIN98SE TIA |

Running WIN98SE TIA The DNS error can be caused by a many things, software firewall settings/configuration being one of the main ones. One major issue is if the firewall doesn't recognize a file/app that tries to access the net and it automatically blocks it, or if a warning popup is presented to the user with a preferred selection that is wrongly set to block it and the user accepts the advice to block it. Do you use a firewall and if yes, have you checked the settings/configuration for program access? Have you checked the firewall rules/settings for un/trusted which may be blocking access? Did you try to perform a repair of IE via System Information? Start Run, type in: msinfo32 and press Enter. On the Menu bar click Tools IE Repair Tool. -- Brian A. If you're missing run.dll (which asumes some piece of code is looking for it) you're likely infected with some sort of malware. |

Un-install/Clean re-install?
In Win98, you can overinstall IE6, but I doubt that doing so will address
your hijackware problem. Checking for/Help with Hijackware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=5878 http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_R...:_Introduction http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/data/prevention.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/tshoot.html http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm http://defendingyourmachine.blogspot.com/ http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1 (http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate forums for expert analysis, not here.** If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Lady Deadra wrote: I while back I overlapped a re-install to correct a lag @ bootup.
