Default NTFSF32 compatability | was Convert FAT32 file system to NTSF?

Based on a number of factors, I'm nearing the replace-
ment of this fully updated W/Me system with that of a
newer box with some form of XP.

As a long time backup, and now planned as a transition
device, I have an external Fat32 drive. This drive will be
used to migrate the retained Me components to the new
XP system. At least, that's the plan.

Based on the various responses on the "Convert FAT32 file system to NTSF?"
thread, the XP system(s) seem to
honor the downward level Fat32. I will not be trying to
run NTFS/Fat32 indefinitely, I'll just be moving the old
Me data to the new NTFS drive(s).

At this completion, the external drive will be scrubbed,
and become the new NTFS backup drive.

Perhaps, someone here has been through this, or a sim-
ilar migration. Sounds pretty simple, but maybe I've over-
looked something?

Thanks,

Gary

Gary.

XP systems have no problems accessing FAT32 drives be they internal or
external. There are a number of reasons why you might just want to retain
the external drive as FAT32 after you're fully "XP'd" and they include the
ability to using the FAT32 drive with legacy systems running Win 98 or Win
Me as well as with many flavours of Linux.

Thanks Mike. I guess when I initially posted that request,
I wasn't really sure XP offered a full coexistence of F32.

However, based on the discussion(s) in the "Convert FAT32 file system to
NTFS?" thread, I learned it is
available.

Thanks for your assistance.

Gary
