Shut down problem
-----Original Message----- When the regular shut down routine reaches the point where the screen says "Windows is Shutting Down " it no longer shuts the computer off automatically. I have to turn it off manually and then every time I turn it on I get the improper shutdown message and I have to wait for it to go through the ScanDisk routine. This is just a simple home set up and it has worked fine eversince Windows 98 was installed. Is there a solution ? Ian Cairns . |

Shut down problem
Hi,
This is a common problem in Win98 SE where Fast Shutdown is still enabled. Run MSCONFIG, click Advanced, and make sure Fast Shutdown is disabled. If the Win98 SE Shutdown Supplement was installed this option will be not appear in MSConfig. If that doesn't do it go to James Eshelman's Shutdown Troubleshooting Site and go through it step by step. Ian Cairns Ian, Startup and Shutdown Problems http://home.epix.net/~bwatt/#Computer For Win 98 SE try #2. For Win 98 FE try #4. Try Start Run and enter Msconfig. Select Advanced, you will see Disable Fast Shutdown. For SE check it, for Win98 FE un-check it. Also try closing all programs before shutting down, including any Anti-virus features (Norton). Also turn off any shutdown sounds. Bert, I cannot access the URL to James site. (Not Found) Regards, Bill Watt Computer Help and Information http://home.epix.net/~bwatt/ |

I should check 10 a day on my site and when I do I usually find a dead one. Regards, Bill Watt Computer Help and Information http://home.epix.net/~bwatt/ |
