The thread from E. Barry Bruyea dated March 30/05 regarding "Boot
question" where you asked "Get the free Bootlog Analyzer utility from
http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/terrace/pk29/" stood up in the air.
Too bad, I was hoping to get at last a hint how to fix this long lasting
frustation: my computor takes an inordinate long time in booting up; tried
all the clean-up tool ever mentioned in this group; the proper maintenance,
etc., but to no avail. Once the 'puter has booted, all is fine and runs like
a charm. Maybe my machine is just not fast enough (celeron ~700 and 64
MBRAM).

Anyway, I ran the utility, but afraid its beyond my level of
interpretation...can you sugggest somewhere I can send the results for
analysis?? Tks in advance. Regards.

Mike,
Any chance you could look at my post regarding SlooowBoot
BootLogAnalyzer which contains some BLA snips?

Sorry to but in but I haven't heard back from anyone.

Let me know what you'd like to see from the BLA file.

Thanks for your help!
-----Original Message-----
Paul,

If you use BLA check the box to just show delays and

perhaps also
failures. This should reduce the list considerably after

which either cut
and paste to a posting in the newsgroup or alternatively

list the items
concerned.

I would say the 64 mb of RAM is a big part of your problems,
especially with Windows Me.

Use the System Monitor utility that comes with Windows and use Edit -
Add to set it to track "Memory manager: Swap file in use" for several
days of normal to heavy usage. If "Swap file in use" regularly shows
as 20 mb or more then the swap file is being used extensively and more
memory would result in improved performance. Otherwise it is not
likely to make any noticeable difference.

This applies regardless of how much or how little RAM is currently
installed in the computer.

There is a configuration setting that needs to be entered if you are
going above 512 mb of RAM with Windows 95/98/Me and there are possible
hardware related problems that can occur with more than 1 gb of RAM
with these Windows versions.

Good luck

Paul,

To be going on with, look at the 'Duration' column and look for an event (or
events) taking 'hundreds' of seconds, instead of fractions or several
seconds. (5 mins = 300 seconds) N.B to sort your list in 'Duration' - just
click the Duration bar.

You've got issues with those values typically in the high
hundreds/thousands.
e.g. 14:33:52 2539.11 Enumerated Alcatel Speed Touch ADSL Modem...
where 2539.11 is 253 seconds or some 4 minutes

The thread from E. Barry Bruyea dated March 30/05 regarding "Boot
question" where you asked "Get the free Bootlog Analyzer utility from
http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/terrace/pk29/" stood up in the air.
Too bad, I was hoping to get at last a hint how to fix this long
lasting frustation: my computor takes an inordinate long time in
booting up; tried all the clean-up tool ever mentioned in this group;
the proper maintenance, etc., but to no avail. Once the 'puter has
booted, all is fine and runs like a charm. Maybe my machine is just
not fast enough (celeron ~700 and 64 MBRAM).

Anyway, I ran the utility, but afraid its beyond my level of
interpretation...can you sugggest somewhere I can send the results for
analysis?? Tks in advance. Regards.

BTW - I would agree with Ron's latest advice re 64MB RAM

My reply was to help interpret BLA

Paul,

To be going on with, look at the 'Duration' column and look for an event
(or events) taking 'hundreds' of seconds, instead of fractions or several
seconds. (5 mins = 300 seconds) N.B to sort your list in 'Duration' -
just click the Duration bar.

You've got issues with those values typically in the high
hundreds/thousands.
e.g. 14:33:52 2539.11 Enumerated Alcatel Speed Touch ADSL Modem...
where 2539.11 is 253 seconds or some 4 minutes

What you're looking for in the BLA is indications that some things are
taking a long time to load... eg: both my graphics and network card take
between 5-10 seconds.

Secondly, if you have "only" 64MB, the I'd suggest not running to many
things at startup. 64MB should be OK for WinME without any extra stuff
though.
