Default Re-installing System Restore.

Hello,

Is it possible to re-install System Restore without doing a full
installation of the operating system?

Thanks.

Ben.

Default Re-installing System Restore.

What on earth makes you think that System Restore needs reinstalling? - it's
almost impossible to uninstall it!

I suggest that you have a read here....
http://www.crashfixpc.be/quiktipsr.htm

and come back with a post with some information, rather than a wild request

Default Re-installing System Restore.

Hello Noel,

Thanks for responding.

It does seem that having uninstalled PCHEALTH I have also disabled
(literally) S/R. but since I had it disabled (in the acceptable way) in any
case, I think I will run without it.

This command: %windir%\Pchealth\Support\Pchsetup /UNINSTALL found here
under the heading: Uninstall Pc Health: http://www.mdgx.com/me1.htm mislead
me.

Ben.

Let me know if you have problems, Ben (and you should know better than to
try doing things like that! - I though I had you better trained! )

Default Re-installing System Restore.

Actually Noel, you trained me very well - I am adventurous, to a degree,
thanks to you.

I am quite happily running without PCHealth, System Restore, Help and
Support, Dr Watson, Kodak Imaging, Task Scheduler and goodness knows
whatelse!

I have been without the conventional security freewares for 4 months and I
have recently taken my router out of line. I am, thanks to you guys, very
maintenance minded. A daily routine does the trick. Am I a maverick? I don't
think so. A computer - mine - is the last real challenge of a life otherwise
quite retiring. You will remember the turning point, Noel - the format and
install. That learned, well anything became possible. I really have you to
thank for that.

I share a tip with you for what it is worth. I cleaned out the interior of
my case a few days ago - dismantling the power supply in order to remove the
gooey dust of five years and using compressed air on the rest. The result
was a fierce squeak from my speakers on bootup. Oh my, I thought I had
ruined the fan bearings but realised such a squeak would hardly come from
the speakers. So I scratched my head. The first thing I came up with worked.
Relief all round. Can you 'guess', Noel, what I did?

Best wishes.

Ben.

Default Re-installing System Restore.

Disabling PCHealth, or rather removing it from Startup and the Task
Scheduler, is far from being the same as uninstalling PCHealth. All it
means is that you no longer are launching the useless PCHealth Scheduler
for data collection (which then launches winmgmt.exe). System Restore and
System File Protection are handled by Win Me's state manager (statemgr.exe
and stmgr.exe).
