I-pod Nano software will not install

Default I-pod Nano software will not install

My son received an I-pod Nano as a gift. The software will not install
stating that some sort of file is missing. On the system requirments it
states Win 2000 or Win XP. Without changing operating systems is there
anyway of getting around this
