Default Windows Protection Error

Recently in the last 2 days, upon turning my computer on in the morning, I
get the Windows Protection error message, press any key to continue, which I
do and then computer shuts down. When rebooting i have to right click in
desk top, properties, and then reset my colors , my refresh rate back to 85.
Been noticing too,, when typing in like a chatroom format,, in the midst of
typing I loose the cursor somehow, and have to put it back to finish typing.
Thanks for your help

Is there any more to the error message besides "Windows Protection Error"?
Can you start in Safe Mode without getting the error?
-Start the computer and hold down the CTRL key till the Windows 98 Startup menu
(boot menu) appears.
-Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.

I'm having the same problem. Just started yesterday after the system would
not recognize our USB scanner so rebooted, which seemed to help in the past
couple of times this happened.
I can start in Safe Mode.
If I should start another discussion link, let me know.

L.

Ps Have noticed that during startup, after a msg of "verifying DMI pool
Data" ( or something like this) I get 2 msgs saying "bootable cd does not
exist".

Is it a new scanner that you just installed, or is it a scanner that you have been
using successfully before on that computer?

The P.S. question sounds like you have the BIOS boot sequence set to check for a
bootable CD prior to booting from the hard drive.
