Media Player won't run

I recently got the updated version of Media Player as directed by Microsoft.
This was due to the one I had was five years old and according to them, it
wouldn't be of much use anymore. so, as I said, I downloaded the newer
version. that's where my problems started. Nothing will run on it. It acts
like it's going to, but a little window comes up and says, "data is invalid".
So what gives? I've tried to contact Microsoft Help area, but nobody gets
back in touch with me. So, don't try getting anywhere with
"wrhelp@microsoft". they're useless. Someone please help me.
