Default No sound ona any media players

I get no sound when I try to play any media player or hear
audio from the web. It makes no sense and just happened
all of the sudden. I have windows 98 on an HP machine. All
the standard settings seem to be in place.

My speakers work when I click on items or adjust the
volumne control on the tool bar, but no sound for any
media players. Video is fine, just no sound.

Thanks,

Steve

What kind of sounds? If you don't have the right audio
codecs for a video, the audio won't play but the video
will. Do you get sound for other things? Like Winamp or
the Windows start up sound?

Hi i am having the same problems. I can hear sound when i adjust the volume
or sound alerts on my computer. But when i try to play a music file (mp3,wmv)
my media player automatically crashes and i have to restart my computer. That
happens every time i try to play a music file, and in the end i still end up
hearing no music. Im pretty sure my sound card is installed correctly. Any
help would be great!
thanks,

Maybe you have muted the sound of Media player.
or Maybe you have muted the sound of "systray" (you can check this by
double-clicking on systray which is beside the clock".

If these steps didn't work try the following:

1- If you have a "Mute" button on your key board, see if you haven't pushed
that key or you haven't changed the sound volume using keyboard buttons.

2- Double click on "SysTray" which is beside the clock. Then see if any of
the choices are muted.

3-
--Right-Click-- My Computer-- Properties-- Device Manager--One Click--
Sound, Video and Game controlers-- Remove--"Are you Sure?"--Yes--OK
Then:
Restart your computer.

If this worked, please let me know.

Maybe you have a running program which makes some conflict with "windows
media player".
Push Ctrl+Alt+Del and close all other running programs, then try to open
"Windows Media Player".
If this didn't work you can reinstall your Media Player.
