And besides, Gary could have always chosen to post under an alias if he wanted. What expectation of privacy do you have when you're not trying to hide your identity? No one knows where he is I believe I posted sufficient evidence to the contrary. The entire thread is in bad taste, is in fact despicable. Doing an online search and then posting a phone number that may or may not be Gary's is beyond bad taste by quite a bit. You apparently value no one's privacy but your own. Now we will likely be treated to an abusive discourse by you on how *you* know how to protect your privacy, and if someone else didn't plan in advance for it, then they deserve to have their privacy invaded by mean-spirited people such as yourself. When Gary and countless others were posting here with our real names and email addresses for quite a number of years, in order to further help the, at that time, sincere group of folks posting, the Internet was a far different place and privacy was not a large concern. We took private emails for extra help as a matter of course. You were nowhere to be seen, you were not here helping anyone, all through the late 1990's and very early 2000's. Once contact info is available, it remains. That doesn't require you to post other's personal info here, except to be a mean-spirited person. It is just this sort of talking-behind-someone's-back thread and all the references to someone's death when there is no evidence of it, that has dragged this once-helpful group down into a sewer of personal attacks. The comments made in these threads about Gary, about "God's intentions", and the attempted humour the idea of Gary's death, I find personally offensive to the extreme. Having dealt with the deaths of three of the closest people in my life in the past year, one of them horribly tragic, I can only find the whole lot of you, and your comments, sickening. You are a bunch of spoiled and cruel children. I am done with this group, and good riddance. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Oct. 2002 - Sept. 2009 A+ http://dts-l.net/ |

The entire thread is in bad taste, is in fact despicable. I did not start this thread, and it is not despicable. Doing an online search and then posting a phone number that may or may not be Gary's is beyond bad taste by quite a bit. If the address and phone number does not belong to the Gary S Terhune that we are talking about, then there can be no harm done. If that is Gary's real address and phone number, then he (like thousands or millions of other people) can choose to have unlisted phone numbers. Do you want me to post your address and phone number here? Do you think if I don't, that others reading this would be blocked from discovering it themselves by doing a few simple searches? You apparently value no one's privacy but your own. Take that bogus argument up with yellowpages or whitepages or 411.com or myspace or facebook or linkedin, etc. I'm not the maintainer of those information data-bases that make such information freely and publically available. Now we will likely be treated to an abusive discourse by you on how *you* know how to protect your privacy, Show me the abusive nature of my argument. That you need to rely on hyperbolic statements to bolster your argument is obvious. and if someone else didn't plan in advance for it, then they deserve to have their privacy invaded by mean-spirited people such as yourself. Mean-spirited? What kind of pussy are you? Mean spirited would be to hire a private detective to track Gary down, determine non-published address and phone number, take and post surveilence pictures of him, post private material that he may have given me in confidence, etc. Where did I do any of that? When Gary and countless others were posting here with our real names and email addresses for quite a number of years, in order to further help the, at that time, sincere group of folks posting, This is not about what he or you or I did or did not do in the past, in this newsgroup or any other. I don't know why you think that's relevent. the Internet was a far different place and privacy was not a large concern. We took private emails for extra help as a matter of course. So you're saying that once you start posting using your real identity, back in the good'ol days, that there are rules that you can't later drop your real identity and use a handle? Just because you can explain why things are the way they are doesn't mean it couldn't have been different, and that people don't or didn't have choices. You were nowhere to be seen, you were not here helping anyone, all through the late 1990's and very early 2000's. Why are you linking my presence and my perceived value to this newsgroup, to this issue? Are you saying that if I was here, actively posting during that time frame, that it would give me a free pass to post Gary's address and phone number today? That it would have been acceptible for me to do so? What argument exactly are you trying to make? Once contact info is available, it remains. That doesn't require you to post other's personal info here, except to be a mean- spirited person. I responded to a thread with credible and pertinent information. I did not start the thread. How is that being "mean-spirited" ? It is just this sort of talking-behind-someone's-back thread and all the references to someone's death when there is no evidence of it I did not make the initial suggestion that he might be dead, and in fact the information that I subsequently posted supported the idea that he is not dead. Why are you not taking these matters up with Bill and PCR, who started this thread and (particularly PCR) initiated the discussion around Gary's health and mortality. that has dragged this once-helpful group down into a sewer of personal attacks. The comments made in these threads about Gary, about "God's intentions", and the attempted humour the idea of Gary's death, I find personally offensive to the extreme. Why are you reluctant to direct those observations to specific people here? I am done with this group, and good riddance. You spend more time posting to XP newsgroups anyways, so it's obvious that you're leaving more because of your interest in XP. You can pretend it's because of some other reason if you want. And take your high horse with you. |

I just try to ignore some of this crap and not let it ruin everything, and would wish you could do the same. I agree it's gotten worse, however. But then again, that's true for a lot of things it seems these days (not the technology, but the "sociology") Just another sign of the times... |
