help re-installing windows ME
I have the same problem, I reformatted and only have the WIN ME upgrade CD, somehow I lost or misplaced the original WIN 98 CD. I tried my WIN 95 CD with no luck, what do I do now?

On Microsoft CDs this is a folder named win98. If instead of a system CD you have a recovery disk (although I don't think these were used by OEM's when Win 98 was released) you will have to install Win 98 using the recovery CD and then upgrade to Win Me. Incidentally Microsoft DO still support Win Me (see Updated Clarification on the Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Support Extended Announcement http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;LifeAn1) -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP roland wrote: my screen says.. this product is an upgrade to microsoft Windows. You may have the cheaper upgrade version of Win Me for which the qualifying
product is either Win 98 or 98SE in which case you might be out of luck. Check the CD. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Rabib wrote: I have the same problem, I reformatted and only have the WIN ME upgrade CD, somehow I lost or misplaced the original WIN 98 CD.
