Default Print spooling

A friend has a computer running Win 98SE which wouldn't print using
spooling BUT will print directly to printer. What would cause the
spooling feature to go belly up? He is using an old dot matrix printer.

I believe I read that while using spooling one can multi-task but when
the printer is set to print directly to printer that one has to wait for
the printing to be completed before performing other tasks. Is this so?

Your friend may not be getting spool32 errors but this article may be
helpful anyway:

Hi Patty...thanks for the info. It has been a while since I ran Win98 so
am a bit rusty. The info will definitely help. I suspect that my
friend's win.ini may be corrupt. Will take a look next time that I
access his computer.
