Default EEPROM checksum error

Finally found an error message. My system boots and after
a couple of seconds totally freezes. Already tried
scanreg /fix from DOS and rebooting. Any way I hadn't
seen an error message that pops up for only a couple of
seconds:

PEX-E05: EEPROM - checksum error.

My computer is an HP Vectra VL Pentium 3 with Win ME.

Any suggestions???

I hate to disillusion you - but unless your PC is on a network, it's
unlikely to be a relevant error.
This error is usually generated when a PC attempts to boot from a network,
and fails to get the relevant files correctly, probably due to corruption of
data.

Disconnect your PC form ALL external devices - except the Keyboard and
Mouse - and see if the error is reproducible then (or whether it changes to
something else which is reproducible)
