Default Connecting a GatewayPC-Win98se to a Dell Inspiron WinXL laptop

Several of these posts seem to express the frustration I
feel in trying to interpret and understand all of this
technical jargon on the internet concerning wireless
networking.I have contacted Dell, Gateway, Road Runner,
and at this point, noone seems able to help me.All I want
is answers to whether this is possible or whether there is
a simpler solution. My wireless hardware is in place, but
can't get it to work. Being not too literate in computer
technology, I find it extremely difficult to follow all
the various instruction. I'm wondering if a simpler method
would be cable connecting. Or, if not can anyone lead me
to a specific reference or tell me in 1,2,3 fashion what I
need to do! Thanks for reading and helping. Billie
