Default Unable to print to network printer from Win98SE client

I have a dual-boot PC (XP SP3 & 98 SE) which cannot print (from Notepad nor a
simple Test Page) to a network printer (shared Lexmark Z55 connected by USB
on another XP SP3 box) when booted via the Win98SE drive... it works normally
via the XP setup though (so not a hardware nor connection issue).

When printing is attempted (under Win98SE), the printjob appears to queue up
normally, but nothing happens at the printer (which is on before the job is
sent to the printer).

However, this 98SE client was able to see the printer in question on the
network and add it to the available Printers.

Furthermore, I can print normally to this printer from the PC where it is
shared, as well as all other XP boxes in my (only) workgroup... including the
XP setup on the problem PC.

The printer's driver (on all PCs), OSes (on all PCs), and McAffee Internet
Security (firewall, anti-virus, etc. -- on XP machines *only*) are all
up-to-date [verified before making this post]... there is no firewall nor A/V
software on the 98SE client at all.

Any thoughts?

Does Lexmark state that this printer should work with Windows 98se? Does it
work if you (temporarily) connect the printer direct to the 98se PC?

Cari, thanks for the feedback... here's what I can tell ya:

I am using the updated Win9x/ME driver from the Lexmark website, so I guess
that would be a "yes" to your first question... else, they wouldn't offer the
updated driver, I reckon. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that I was able to
successfully print to this printer locally from a different Win98SE machine a
few [i.e., about 5] years ago... but, that PC has long-since been retired.

Unfortunately, I cannot answer your second question, since the printer isn't
physically close to the Win98SE client... so, I can't even temporarily try a
physical/local connection. But, as I said, I can print via the same network
when booted under the WinXP setup, and I was able to browse to and select
this network printer when adding new printers to the problem Win98SE setup...
so, that pretty much eliminates network and hardware/cabling concerns,
wouldn't you agree? [Of course, it could be a 'personal' problem for that
Win98SE setup, but I'm still fishing for some specific things I can check (in
lieu of trying a hard connection).]
