Default Virus

Hi. I'm running Windows 98se. I have a virus called "Advertismen", and I
can not get rid of it. I ran Ad-Aware. But it's still there. Deleted it
from my temp. files but it didn't go away. Also tried Spy Doctor,
but.......virus is still there. Tried to down load Hijackthis, but seems I'm
missing the file needed to open that. Blank.exe file. Someonnne please
help. Thank you

First identify the source of the virus, then
neutralize it.
1. Key Ctl-Alt-Del to see what is currently
loaded, and spot the alien.
2. Search the whole hard drive for files named
for the Alien. Write down the names and
filepaths of any of type EXE or DLL.
3. Rename these (in DOS if protected by
Windows) so that they cannot load, e.g.
filetype EXX and DLX, and reboot.

You will still need to identify the type of virus
and run its specific antidote.

Post results back here (or in an MS NG
specializing in viruses) distinguishing
clearly between non-functional error messages
(e.g. file calls to items you have renamed) and
functional ones (that prevent computing as you want.)

A google search for Advertismen yields this. Maybe it will help you:

That is a standard way to remove SOME viruses/trojans/spyware, however, as
noted the

registry editing is not recommended for the uninformed..

So for your protection and piece of mind, there are several parties in here
that can provide a step by step removal process. I suggest downloading
AdAware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, and CCleaner.

Running the first two on the system and finding out what is installed.

Post back with the information and for additional help.
