Default Setup won't let me choose typical setup and stops after file copying?

Hi, I almost made it through a Win98SE setup after 3 days of fighting
with it. I downloaded the floppy files from bootdisk.com and put them
before the Win98SE files and burned a CD from Nero 6. This time all
proceeded fairly well, but when it got to the screen where you could
pick the type of install, it flew right through there and I couldn't
pick the one I wanted but chose Custom. However, it still kept chugging
away and copied most of the files, I believe, but then went right back
to an E: prompt. So, why did this happen?

Now, I rebooted and it sort of skipped that part in the Safe Recovery
mode but then it said it couldn't continue because of no comcat32.dll
file. So, what can I do to get this Win98SE up and running. Please help
me with this as this setting up is beginning to be really a pain in the
you-know-where. Something is really wrong and if you could help me,
much appreciated, DD

Omit the bootable CD i.e. reinstal from the
(correct) floppy and the instal CD. When you
copied the install CD onto a bootable CD,
with floppy contents besides, you may have
thus altered the subdirectory structure so
the instal routine gets lost. (Being designed
to run only from a Microsoft CD SETUP.EXE
lacks routines to let you Browse to locate
essential files. It is designed to run
automatically without such aids, thus lacks them.

Hi, Don, I used to live in Ottawa awhile ago. Well, I don't have an
instal Cd, just a recovery CD with Win98SE on it....that is why I tried
to make a bootable one. I thought that would have been figured out by
my post. So, the files get messed up in the subdirectory changeover,
makes sense, that is probably why I had so much trouble trying to
accomplish this reinstall. Microsoft makes all these routines so
complicated by some of their safety procedures, esp. when you have paid
for your copy of an OS. Well, it didn't setup properly, if you have any
ideas, feel free to send them my way. I have a restore CD with Win 98Se
on it, inside its own folder. Thanks for some insight, DD
