Basic question(s) about Matrox Powerdesk
I gave my brother my old Windows 98 PC. It has a Matrox Millenium
video card and the Matrox Powerdesk software. Somehow (he is definitely not computer literate) he has done something with the Powerdesk settings that make me think he has turned on the multiple desktop feature, but since I never dabbled with that feature, I don't know how to undo what he did. The first thing I noticed was that there are now 2 Matrox icons in the system tray. One (the "normal" one I believe) is the Matrox Quickdesk icon, which when right clicked, brings up several options such as Matrox Display Settings. The other icon is similar to the first, but it has a red image superimposed on the image of the monitor. When the mouse pointer is held over this icon, it shows the current screen resolution. When I right click on it, it displays a list of 4 identical "boxes", each with a list of several screen resolutions. Of these 4, only 1 has any of the selections checked. But I am guessing that each of these boxes corresponds to 1 of 4 desktops. Am I correct, and if so, how do we turn off the multiple desktops? I have been through all of the Matrox Display Settings and Properties that I could find, but found nothing that I could identify as being related to multiple desktops. The main effect of this is that the PC is VERY slow, which I assume is due to the multiple desktops overtasking the 4MB of video mamory. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Basic question(s) about Matrox Powerdesk
Hi Tom,
I don't know the answer to you question, but if this change was made I the last four days, restoring the registry may fix it. To restore a backup copy of the registry using ScanReg 1. Start your computer, press and hold CTRL, (or by tapping F8) select Command Prompt Only 2. At the MS-DOS prompt, type scanreg /restore. 3. Select the previous registry you want to restore, and then press ENTER. 4. When you receive notification that you restored a properly working registry, press ENTER to restart your computer. For more information on Scanreg check this article: Description of the Windows Registry Checker Tool (Scanreg.exe) http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q183/8/87.asp -- Regards, Bert Kinney [MS-MVP DTS] http://dts-l.org/ How to Configure Outlook Express for Internet News: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=171164 "Tom Gordon" wrote I gave my brother my old Windows 98 PC.
