Default mapping drive from 98 in domain to 2000 box in workgroup

Hello all,
I need to map a drive from several 98 workstations that are part of a domain
environment to a share on a 2k server that is in a workgroup. I have not
found a way to map the drive using a different username. Windows 98 assumes
the username that is currently logged on when attempting to map a drive.
Unless i have that same username and password on the 2k server, it is
obviously not going to work. As the 98 workstations are in a domain
environment, they will likely run up against forced password changed
depending on the domain policies in effect. This presents a high maintenance
situation. There are 3 locations with 98 workstations and each location is a
separate domain. If it were only 1 domain, I could join our application
server to it and problem over... no such luck! I guess I am looking for a
registry hack that will allow the use of a different username when mapping a
drive to the 2k server. Under normal circumstances, on customer machines, I
put a batch file in the startup folder on client machines. "net use Q:
\\serverIP\sharename password /user:username /persistent:no" This allows use
of the application on the 2k server by clients not part of the same workgroup
because credentials have been established. I hope this makes sense and that
someone can enlighten me...I have not been able to find the answer...hope
there is one!
Thanks in advance.

There is no way to specify a different username when mapping from a Windows
98 computer to a Windows 2000 computer.

I was kind of hoping that the answer you gave wasn't going to appear but...I
was fully expecting it!
So if you understand what i am trying to do, do you have any alternative
suggestions?
Forgive me. but I am reaching for straws here...I have a multi location
customer that requires use of a hosted database and web server that has still
got many windows 98 workstations in their organization.

Yep, I know your pain. I also used to support Win98 clients on a domain who
needed to access off-domain resources using a different username, the only
satisfactory solution I found was to bring all network servers into the
domain as well.
