Default reinstall sound

As a first step may I suggest you post your query to a newsgroup
supporting those running the XP operating system such as perhaps
microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers. This newsgroup is primarily for
those requiring help with the Windows Millennium (Win Me) operating
system.

However what happens when you open the Sounds and Audio Devices applet in
the Control Panel, click the Sounds tab and then the arrow to the right
hand side of the Sound Scheme box? This should offer you at least two
schemes, No Sounds and Windows Default. If possible select Windows
Default and use that as a basis for your sound scheme.
