Do we still need stinger and HijackThis? They are not updated for long.

HijackThis 1.99.1

That very much depends on whether your system is infected with unwanted
malware or not. HijackThis continues to be a most useful tool.

Stinger. As McAfee say on their web site "Stinger is only updated upon
the discovery of a new Medium or higher threat."

It is good to have these tools in the event of a virus infection that cannot
be removed by your installed Anti-Virus, *assuming* Stinger supports the
said virus. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

HijackThis needs no updating as it is still current. Many sites host HijackThis
for download - please see: http://www.merijn.org/programs.php#hijackthis

Neither are needed.

HiJack This is a tool to be used by someone who has a strong understanding of the S and its
intricacies. It is a utility and not an anti malware scanner There are no regular updates.

McAfee Stinger is a narrow spectrum worms detection and removal tool (and a few Trojans).
It shouldn't be used unless you know specifically you are infected by one of the viruses it
actually targets.

If you want a tool that is Broad-Spectrum and gets regular updates, you can try my Multi AV
Scanning Tool. When I say "Broad-Spectrum" I mean thousands of viral and non-viral malware
objects can be found and removed. While stinger only targets ~60 infectors and their
variants, the McAfee module in the Multi AV Scanning Tool has ~225,000 signatures.

It always is good to have more than one opinion on any specific subject, to
obtain that *broad spectrum* view.
Thanks,

Harry.
