No, it's a desktop that has one of those big CPUs that needs a specific
motherboard, motherboards that aren't made anymore.

I'll never buy another HP.

I suspect that it's just an early version of the chip - before it got
downsized. There's always a problem getting hold of older motherboards - but
there maybe other solutions....

What's the actual motherboard you're using? have you checked for a BIOS
update? - these will occasionally give access to larger RAM sticks or HD's
than the originals.

I've updated the BIOS already. Now the splash screen says "invent". Heh. No,
the processor is one of those big clunky kind that you have to screw to the
board. It's just a test machine and a back up machine now.
