Default standard butoons toolbar

When I open internet explorer, all of the words (back,
forward, stop...etc)under my standard buttons icons are of
grey color instead of a solid black. The same goes for my
system clock. What would cause that and is there a way to
fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated.
