Default Unable to download files from web pages

Hi fellow Newbies. Why can't I download files from the
internet? I've been able to download Window's Update and
Mailwasher but every other download link i've tried (Avg
and Lime Wire to name but two) seems to be as dead as
a ... really dead thing. I don't have a firewall,
downloads are enabled in my internet options, to the best
of my knowledge I don't have a virus, although I did try
to download a tool to scan for a certain virus that can
cause these symptoms .. but of course it didn't download.
I also tried to download a programme that can diagnose
problems with ones downloads but, guess what ... it
wouldn't download. Any suggestions? Pleeease.

Hi,

If you right-click on the download link and choose "save target as" what
happens? Do you get an error message of some sort?
