Default Ethernet Cards

Question:

I have a Gateway computer with a Celeron processor
running Windows 98. There is an ethernet card connected
to the computer which runs a document center (all-in-one
copier, printer, etc). I am now trying to connect a USB
Ethernet adapter to get DSL on the computer. Problem is
they won't both work at the same time - I have to disable
one to get the other to work. Anyone have any
suggestions? I was told that upgrading to Windows 200 or
XP might do the trick... Thanks.
