Default Win 98 drvspace Compressed-drives running in Compatibility mode.

Win 98 drvspace Compressed-drives running in Compatibility mode.

I am using Win 98 second edition. I cannot install any new Applications
Because after a reboot, right-click MyComputer Properties Performance:
all my drvspace/dblspace drives are running in "Compatibility Mode". So, all
long-file of folders/files names appear withthe tilda ~. My Applications,
cant start, since the paths are not correct.

My only solution was to restore my backups.

But, I am stuck, I cant install any big new Applications !

In config.sys DRVSPACE.SYS /MOVE never worked even under Win 98
first-edition. But, this was never a problem. Also, Win 98 second-edition is
only using the DBLSPACE.BIN (but this is identical to DRVSPACE.BIN anyway).

Does Win 98 2nd edition, have a limit to the number of programs I can
install ?

Help !!

Drive Compression is the very latest Win95
technology. It seemed appropriate a decade
ago when hard drives were expensive. But
this software is simply not reliable enough
to be worth using nowadays. Buy a larger HD.

Windows 98 does not have a limit on the applications you can install, other
than available drive space.

Compatibility mode or short filenames will not prevent you from installing
new applications (and in any case it appears that you solved the short
filenames problem by restoring from backup). What applications are you
trying to install and exactly what happens during the installation?

This may help. If not, try clean booting.
